The answer is:  Yes!!

Morocco is considered the 5th safest country among the tourist destinations studied, tied with Japan and Canada according to a ranking established by the British magazine "Which? Travel", with a score of 6.1.

Because safety first, here are some tips while in Morocco:

  1. Don’t put flashy jewelries and hide your valuables:

Expensive items could be a sign of wealth, thing that will make you more attractive. Try to keep it simple; specially when it’s just for shopping or strolling in the old medinas. Cause they will try harder to scam you in stores or steal you on the crowded areas (Pickpockets).

So, always:

  • Keep your valuables (phone, wallet….) secure.
  • Don’t give anyone the opportunity.
  • Take the minimum you need when you leave your accommodation.
  • Don’t take your passport with you (make a copy if it’s needed).
  1. Avoid solo night walks:

If you are into a solo discovery, avoid the tiny empty streets and try to stroll in the busy areas. Don’t venture too far away from the crowds.

If you admire going out at night, only take the minimum you will need and leave the rest of your wallet in your accommodation.

So, always:

  • Avoid tiny street at night.
  • Instead of cash, try to use your credit card.
  • Be minimalist and watch-out.

  1. Say no to fake tour guides

Tour guides without license are illegal in Morocco. There will be some people insisting to guide you for “no money”, be firm and say no. They will try to get you into their shops or take you places and ask for money for the service.

Always:

  • Make sure that the person who’s going to guide you, is an official guide.
  • Ask people before you take someone’s picture
  • Look for the tourist police and ask for help or assistance, if the someone starts annoying you.
  1.  Travel insurance

Losing something, could always happen during your trip. Sometimes it’s something simple other times, it could be something as important as the passport or luggage.

Always:

  • Put your travel insurance on the top of your traveling list. Because it will protect you and your valuables.
